In Passing
An original piece. One person stands in stillness as various iterations of ‘life’ (inspired by the work of Charles Mee and Allan Krapow) pass across the stage. The play functions like a cycle - it starts where it ends, and mirrors itself (with variation) at the midpoint. In many ways, a more complete form of my early Robert Wilson experiment (which can be found here).
Performed in February 2022 with Tess Therrien, Dom Decicco, Fabiola Cabrera, and Ashley Schwach. Light Design by me. Video available.
In my previous abstract work, I hadn’t paid such explicit attention to the structure; in this piece, rather than using content to arrive at a structure (as had been my tendency), we started with an almost mathematical structure that drove the piece. We determined that in this work, the structure was meant to be seen rather than hidden as is necessary in other styles. I hoped it would function somewhat like a piece of dance or music where one could find beauty in the different ways raw materials were combined onstage.
