Robert Wilson Experiment
In September of 2020, upon the recommendation of a teacher, I discovered Robert Wilson’s work. I watched his production of Adam’s Passion, and was immediately transfixed. I remember my perception of time literally slowing down, even though a computer screen. It was unlike any theatre I had seen up to that point. After vigorous study of Robert Wilson’s theatre, I wanted to experiment with these ideas on its feet. This project was my first attempt at 1) formally constructed theatre, 2) theatrical ‘distance’ between performer and audience, and 3) manipulation of time. I view this project as an important starting point for me artistically - through both its success and failure, it revealed to me the kind of theatre I want to create, and the way I want to make it.
Performed January 2021 with Jenna Steinberg, Sydney Leiser, Joseph Oliveri, and Eleanor Hardwick.
